Lindsay McCall's enthusiasm for great wine began in the 1970s, he established his first Mornington plantings in 1985 on the site of a derelict orchard at Red Hill along Paringa Road. From day one, McCall focused on exactingly managing the soils and the vines, after completing his day job as local school teacher. Elderton Estate Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre CONFIRM VINTAGE

Elderton are a baronial Barossa estate of historical significance. The first vines were planted in 1904 by Samuel Elderton Tolley, with a view to supplying local brands. Elderton's wineworks were originally built and operated as a cannery before being converted by the Penfolds company into a functioning winemaking and storage facility. A third each of Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvedre, sourced off the old Helbig Vineyard, from some of the younger Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvedre estate vines, up to forty years of age.

The Helbig property at Greenock in the west of Barossa Valley was acquired by Elderton in 2010 and is a great addition to the portfolio, yields are very low, to ensure younger vines remain healthy and produce a superior harvest that belies their age. Shiraz is typically the first to ripen, sent for a course of open top vinification before components of the later ripening Grenache and Mourvedre are treated to a traditional co fermentation. Batches are transferred to a selection of seasoned French oak puncheons for fifteen months maturation.
